Help us campaign today for a better tomorrow!
For city Councillor wards 1 & 5.
I am a proud resident of the City of Brampton and your declared candidate for the City Councillor seat for Wards 1 and 5, where I currently reside.
I have carefully listened to all the concerns that each of you have expressed when I met you at your homes and out in the public. You have asked me to address affordable housing, increase our healthcare facilities, create a sustainable community, lobby to attract a university, restore the Arts, preserve our heritage properties and lower property tax.
I believe that we should postpone the development of some new residential projects so that we can address your issues and concerns regarding lack of infrastructure. Also we should have better enforcement of our City Bylaws.
It is of the utmost importance that we keep pushing for changes in our community without negatively impacting our environment. As your elected Councillor I will actively support all the above-mentioned issues and concerns, and follow up with the appropriate municipal and provincial departments to achieve the desired results. I will work as a cooperative team-member to make the required amendments and reach agreeable solutions to make our city an attractive place where residents feel happy and safe.
Let's make Brampton a place where people want to relocate and reside.
As your City Councillor, I will be:
An Effective team player:
I will focus on the interests of my constituents.
As a Relationship builder:
I will collaborate with other elected representatives to create sound policies that benefit our city.
Approachable:
I will be accessible to the community by email, phone, text, social media, and public events.
Prepared:
As a business professional I have learned to plan and make decisions in light of long-term sustainability. I have achieved remarkable success in financial efficiency, time management and resource management.
A Critical Thinker:
I use fact-based evidence to form my decisions along with contingency planning.
Fiscal Responsibility:
I will utilize cost-effective approaches to direct city expenditures and allocate effective use of revenues.
Create walkable and connected communities.
Create a Community Safety and Well-Being Plan.
Create a Community Road Safety Strategy.
Attract new and innovative businesses in the community to create jobs.
Create new jobs by attracting new and innovative businesses to the community.
Preserve our Heritage Properties and the Arts.
Ensure that we have the appropriate infrastructure in place to accommodate urban expansion before we initiate projects.
The City of Brampton is experiencing a health care crisis. As your City Councillor, I will advocate for funding for the completion of Phase 2 of Peel Memorial Hospital, for a third hospital and for a mental health facility.
Currently Brampton only has 608 hospital beds for a population over 768,136 and continues to grow. The mental health crisis has spiked for youth and adults and the pressure it exerts on our already deficient healthcare system is overwhelming.
Implement a 'Housing Action Plan' for affordable housing. This will include successful strategies used by other municipalities to create more housing.
We also need more Long Term Care Homes for seniors.
Renting a basement apartment is no longer affordable. Average income earners, and Seniors are being priced out of market rent.
Enforcing:
The City must hire more bylaw officers to address and enforce bylaws for:
Brampton has played its role in been a humanitarian city, helping to relocate refugees from throughout the globe.
As an elected official I will continue to support the humanitarian aid needed around the world and to keep Brampton a part of the action plan.
Brampton's homeowners have the highest Property Tax Rate within the Region of Peel.
We need to lower our property tax rate.
The City should be generating income from other sources, and not relying solely on property taxes for revenue.
I am a woman of integrity, and a diligent, dedicated mother.
I am also a businessperson with licences in Real Estate , Life Insurance and Mutual Funds, as well as certification in Property Management
I am an active volunteer with the Children's Aid Society, and work with youth from diverse backgrounds, who face challenges such as mental health and addiction. I am also a volunteer with the Peel District School Board's Parent Involvement Committee as a Parent Representative and I sit on the Nibi Emosaawdang School Council Board (formerly Sir John A MacDonald Middle School).
As we aspire and hope for change, you can count on my dedication to our community. There will be transparency in my communication. I will hold myself accountable to doing the City's duties within the laws it is governed by.
I will strive to make our City inclusive, equitable and equal for all. I am hearing my constituents say they don't feel heard. We need community conversation to rethink what needs to be done. I will listen, I will represent you and I will speak on your behalf.
